Super centre

What if I die before I retire?

HESTA's Trustee has a legal responsibility to make sure your super goes to your legal personal representative or your dependants: your spouse (including de facto), your children, or anyone who depends on you financially or with whom you have an interdependency relationship.

You can advise HESTA of your preferred beneficiaries on your member application form. HESTA's Trustee has the final decision on payment of death benefits, but will consider the people you have named.

It's a good idea to keep this information about your preferred beneficiaries up to date, and to make a Will as a guide for the distribution of your estate. This is important if you have no dependants or to indicate interdependency within a same-sex relationship, or other arrangement.

Your dependants or your estate can be paid all the money in your account plus any insured death benefit, less any taxes that apply.

You can split your nomination between different people and can generally add, delete or change these details at any time by accessing your account on Member Online or by contacting HESTA in writing at PO Box 600, Carlton South, Vic, 3053.
