HESTA appoints Head of Investment Execution
Today HESTA announced the appointment of Gerard Brown as the Fund’s Head of Investment Execution.
HESTA Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Sonya Sawtell-Rickson, said the newly created role will lead investment execution and will report directly to her as a member of the HESTA senior leadership team.
“Gerard has extensive experience and knowledge in investment operations and investment systems, which will boost our internal asset management capability”, Ms Sawtell-Rickson said.
Ms Sawtell-Rickson said the role will oversee the middle and back-office functions of the investment team and facilitate a close partnership between the execution and investment management arms of the Fund’s internal investment team.
“Gerard will be responsible for designing and implementing a fit-for-purpose investment operating platform and framework, with a strong focus on building our internal asset management capability,” Ms Sawtell-Rickson said.
“We’re looking at significant system implementations in the coming years. This role focuses on supporting effective investment execution of the Fund’s current and future multi-asset class investment management activities.”
Gerard has over 30-years’ experience in the financial services sector and has led large scale cross-functional global operating teams. He has also been responsible for significant transformational projects involving redesigning investment operating models and executing complex technology solutions. Before joining HESTA Gerard worked at BNP Paribas as Programme Director and has held executive positions in the investment industry and funds management sector.
Gerard has a Master of Applied Finance from Macquarie University and a Bachelor of Business and Accounting from the University of Technology Sydney. He is a CPA, a Fellow of FINSIA and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
“I’m looking forward to joining HESTA to help in further building the Fund into a leading global investment organisation, ensuring HESTA is well-positioned to continue to deliver strong, sustainable long-term returns to members,” Mr Brown said.
Gerard will start on 29 July and will take over leading the Investment Execution function from Rob Fowler who is moving into semi-retirement.
“Rob has made an enormous contribution to our members, initially as CIO for more than a decade and more recently overseeing our investment execution and responsible investment activities,” said Ms Sawtell-Rickson said.
“During this time Rob has significantly developed the investment execution capability at HESTA, to support the continued delivery of strong, competitive, long-term returns for our members.”
