Industry super fund HESTA named top employer for gender equality
HESTA was today named an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) for the third year in a row.
HESTA CEO Debby Blakey said over 80% of the Fund’s more than 870,000 members across Australia were women, so it was vital HESTA led by example in developing innovative strategies to foster diversity and inclusion.
“We’re championing the long-term change we want to see in workplaces as greater gender equality, inclusion and respect impact the financial future of HESTA members and benefits all working Australians,” Ms Blakey said.
“We keep challenging ourselves to find new ways to realise the benefits that a diverse and inclusive culture brings to the performance of an organisation. That’s why it’s wonderful to again be recognised by WGEA as an employer of choice for gender equality.”
Ms Blakey said HESTA has an enduring, holistic focus on improving gender equality through its own culture, via its advocacy and investments, and in collaboration with partners.
“We’re continuing to develop new integrated approaches across our organisation that celebrate diversity, promote flexibility, and support our people in their employment and throughout their careers,” Ms Blakey said.
“A workplace culture based on inclusion and respect is vital to attracting and retaining top talent, supports high-quality decision making and strong performing teams. We know our culture at HESTA underpins the continued delivery of leading, long-term performance for our members.”
HESTA provides employees with paid parental leave with superannuation paid on both paid and unpaid leave up to 12 months. In 2018, HESTA was proud to see increases in male employees using primary parental leave, carers’ leave and flexible work arrangements.
Criteria for organisations to obtain the WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation includes leadership, learning and development, flexible working, initiatives to support family responsibilities and targets for improving gender equality outcomes.
Ms Blakey has been a WGEA Pay Equity Ambassador since 2016 and a vocal advocate for pay equity.
