Nominations have officially opened ahead of the 2026 HESTA Australian Nursing & Midwifery Awards.
The awards – set to run for their 20th year - honour the vital contributions made by Australia’s nurses, midwives, nurse educators, researchers, and personal care workers, who improve health outcomes for those in our community through exemplary care and support.
HESTA CEO Debby Blakey praised nurses and midwives and called for Australians to start nominating.
“Nurses and midwives play a vital role in shaping healthier communities through their unwavering care, expertise and compassion. They make a difference that truly deserves to be celebrated and honoured,” Ms Blakey said.
“Making a nomination for the HESTA Awards is a meaningful way to honour the exceptional work of a nurse or midwife. It’s an opportunity to shine a spotlight on their dedication, compassion, and the positive impact they’ve made in the lives of others and the community.”
Employers, colleagues and members of the public have until 18 January 2026 to nominate a nursing or midwifery professional or organisation who has demonstrated leadership, innovation, and pursued excellence to deliver high-quality patient care.
Nominations can be made across three categories: Nurse of the Year, Midwife of the Year, and Outstanding Organisation with a prize on offer for the winner of each category.
Finalists will be announced on 14 April 2026 and winners revealed at a special ceremony in Melbourne on 14 May 2026.
The 2025 HESTA Australian Nursing & Midwifery winners included Midwife of the Year Vanessa Page from Gateway Health in Victoria, Nurse of the Year Ty Simpson from The Alfred in Victoria and Rosemary Bryant AO Research Centre from South Australia.
