Woombye CARE from Woombye, QLD are finalists in the 2019 HESTA Aged Care Awards

Recognised for providing care to older Australians who experience difficulty accessing mainstream facilities and services, including people with long-term psychiatric conditions and various types of dementia.

Woombye CARE are a unique, small community-based aged care facility focused on caring for those who may be severely marginalised within society. The not-for-profit, non-denominational residential facility founded in 1986 provides quality care to those whose only income is the government pension. Woombye Care has 55 funded beds and plans to expand their services to support the growing need from middle-aged to older Australians unable to live independently but who don’t require the 24-hr support of residential care.

Many residents are referred by the local hospital with only the clothes on their back. Understanding this, the dedicated staff want to provide extra support to help improve the emotional health and wellbeing of residents.
