Regional nurse Katherine is a finalist for Nurse or Midwife of the Year in the 2018 HESTA Australian Nursing & Midwifery Awards, and is recognised for her vision to make a real difference to the lives of people living with liver disease. 
 

Katherine has worked tirelessly to improve the availability of hepatitis C services to disadvatged people living across regional NSW. In her seven years working as a nurse at the Bathurst Liver Clinic Katherine has been instrumental in identifying gaps in service provision and proactive in identifying ways to improve service reach, efficacy, and patient outcomes.

 

Katherine’s proactive approach to her work has led her to develop hepatitis C local guidelines as well as referral and treatment pathways for medical professionals, with these initiatives helping to streamline patient care and improve outcomes.

 

Committed to ensuring that patients receive excellent care no matter their location, Katherine has built partnerships with community health providers, supporting them to treat hepatitis C patients through ongoing consultation and collaboration. With a singular focus on eliminating hepatitis C, Katherine has become an advocate for her patients, tirelessly working to identify ways to improve the health services available to people living with liver disease.
