Former HESTA Chair and Impact Committee member Angela Emslie recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours

HESTA congratulates former HESTA Chair and current Impact Committee member Angela Emslie for her appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) and for her significant service to the finance and superannuation sectors and to suicide prevention.

HESTA CEO Debby Blakey said the entire HESTA team was incredibly proud that Ms Emslie’s enormous contribution to superannuation and suicide prevention had been recognised.

Ms Emslie was a HESTA Director for over 20 years and Chair from 2010 to 2018. She is currently a member of the Impact Committee, which she joined in 2019.

“I’d like to congratulate Angela on this very well-deserved recognition and I am so pleased that Angela’s incredible contribution to our industry over many years has been acknowledged,” Ms Blakey said.

“As Chair, Angela oversaw an amazing period of growth and development at HESTA that has created lasting benefits for generations of HESTA members.

“A visionary leader in responsible investment, Angela has inspired and mentored so many in the industry and has been a strong advocate for members and the industry super fund sector more broadly.”

Ms Emslie has made extensive governance contributions in a range of board roles across the sector for over 25 years.

In addition to her roles at HESTA, Ms Emslie has been a Non-Executive Director at the United Nations-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) since 2016 and a Director at asset consultant Frontier Advisors since 2011. She was also appointed last year as a Non-Executive Director at Reinsurance Group of America ANZ.

Ms Emslie’s broad ranging contributions to the industry fund sector includes directorships at VicSuper, Vison Super and Care Super. She was Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST) President from 2014 to 2016 and a Board Member from 2002 to 2016. Her contribution was recognised when she was awarded AIST Trustee of the Year in 2018.

In addition to her contribution to the superannuation and finance sectors, Ms Emslie has also been an influential advocate and leader in suicide prevention. She was appointed to the Board of Suicide Prevention Australia in 2013 and has been Chair since 2019.
