HESTA announces executive changes
HESTA Chief Risk Officer Andrew Major has this week moved into a newly created advisory role, which will work closely with HESTA’s Investments leaders and advise on the fund’s investment strategy.
Following this move, Ruvimbo Tagwira has commenced in the temporary role of Executive – Risk. She will lead the risk function until a new Chief Risk Officer is appointed, with a global search underway.
Before taking on the Chief Risk Officer role in 2020, Mr Major was General Manager of Unlisted Assets within the Investments team, providing a strong foundation to leverage in this new role.
As an actuary who has worked extensively in the pension and insurance areas globally, Ms Tagwira brings extensive experience in financial services with a strong background in leadership, risk quantification and management, and operational excellence.
HESTA CEO Debby Blakey said the fund looked forward to the continued impact Mr Major would provide in his new role, while welcoming Ms Tagwira and emphasising HESTA’s commitment as a leading fund focused on delivering strong long-term returns to members.
“Andrew’s fantastic strategic expertise has been instrumental in positioning us where we are today, and we look forward to the impact he will make in his new strategic role,” Ms Blakey said.

Mr Major said he was looking forward to his new position at an important time for the fund.
“It has been an absolute privilege to lead the evolution of HESTA’s enterprise risk and regulatory engagement functions over the past 5 years, and gain exposure to all parts of the HESTA business as a member of the Executive Team. I am looking forward to leveraging this experience and my investment background to drive the next phase of HESTA’s investment strategy for the benefit of our members,” Mr Major said.
Ms Tagwira said she was thrilled to join HESTA and help manage the ever-evolving risk landscape.
