onboard and farewell your employees

Do you have new starters or people leaving? We make it easy to onboard and farewell your employees.

help your employees make an informed choice

Your employees may have questions about their super.

We can help you equip your employees with the knowledge to make the best possible decisions for their financial futures.

Getting started

If you have a new starter, or you've just partnered with HESTA, you'll want to tell your employees about your default super fund.

We've developed a guide to help you communicate that HESTA is your default super fund.

Offer a choice

Most employees can choose which fund their super gets paid into.

This means you must give new employees the Superannuation standard choice form within 28 days of their start date.

If your new employee doesn’t choose a super fund, you may need to request their stapled super fund details from the ATO.

Pay your super contributions on time

Your first super guarantee contribution for a new employee must be received by their super fund within 20 business days of their first payday.

This may fall before you have received their completed choice form.

If you haven’t received a choice form from your employee by the time the contribution is due, you must check for a stapled super fund with the ATO first, and if one exists, confirm with the employee whether the contribution should be paid into this fund.

Make it easy to understand

You can share our Easy English guides with your employees to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Easy English is a writing style that helps people who find it hard to read and understand English.

Easy English uses simple terms and has a lower reading level than our other documents.

farewell employees who are finishing up

It's important to do the superannuation paperwork for employees who are leaving, whether they've resigned or retired, if they've become unable to work, or if their role's been made redundant.

See what you need to do to make sure you're meeting your responsibilities as an employer.

If your employee stops working for you permanently

You can ask them to contact us to discuss their super options.

You'll need to make relevant adjustments and enter the appropriate code for terminated members in your contribution advice.

If your employee would like to stay with HESTA at their new job

To stay with HESTA, your employee can complete the Choice of fund (PDF) form to give to their new employer.

You can also share the Changing jobs webpage with your employees.

If your employee's role has been made redundant

Your employee may like to consider putting some plans in place to ensure their super keeps working while they're not working. You can share our Redundancy and super webpage with them.

If your employee is unable to work due to illness or injury

You can ask them to contact us immediately to discuss any insurance they may have.
